Lucky Star

Finally, after a very long time, I finished watching Lucky Star.  Now I’m sad.  Well, I have the OVA still but after that, there’s no more to watch.

The weekend

Lots of sleeping in.  Can’t do it tomorrow.  :(

Also finally took apart my PSP to clean the dust under the screen.  Not as bad as I thought.  Having camera cleaning tools helps.  Though I guess I voided my warranty, not that I’m under warranty anymore I think.

China blocking Youtube, again

Supposedly because of some videos by Tibetans.  Seriously, if they have nothing to hide, what are they so afraid of?

Canon T1i (500D)

Finally, the next model in my camera series has been officially announced.

Looks to be releasing at the same price point too.

What’s new?  It can record video now.  While it can do 1080P, the 20FPS means it’s unusable.  But 720P is doable at 30FPS.  The mic is internal, which a lot of people are complaining about.  It also has a bunch of 50D features, like high ISOs up to 12800.  15MP is kinda meh in my opinion.  I would’ve been happier if it had stayed at 12MP.  It does look like the noise is better than the 50D though.  Here was a comparison pic I found on a forum.

Left: 500D, 12800 iso, 2.8 aperture, 1/4th second
Right: 50D, 12800 iso, 2.8 aperture, 1/6th second

If that’s real, then this would definitely become really tempting for me, because of the amount of low-light shots I’ve taken in the past and the worse noise is why I lost interest in the 50D so quickly.  It also has 50D’s new anti-dust thing but I guess we can see how effective it is from people’s experience with the 50D, which is another annoyance for me and why I generally don’t change lenses as often as I probably should (in fact, I haven’t changed lenses since I got my EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lenses).  Only thing 50D really has over it is the micro-adjustments of AF.  Ergonomics is really subjective.

Gay bars ban bachelorette parties

Filed under: Uncategorized — dracil @ 1:42 am

Makes sense if you think about it.  I mean, the only reason the women are there is so they can get away from the men while they’re drunk (and ironically act like men while they’re drunk).  Which makes them insensitive clods in more way than one.

And no, it’s not discrimination because women that aren’t part of abachelorette party are still welcome, and I’d imagine the bars would also be against bachelor parties, though I don’t think those are likely to be a problem at a gay bar.

Decided not to go to the Tofu thing in Japantown today.  Too expensive and I have a blister on my foot.

SF International Chocolate Salon

Filed under: Uncategorized — dracil @ 11:32 pm

So I splurged a bit today.  I also violated Lent by accident.

Lots of free chocolate sampling at the SF International Chocolate Salon.  Some wine sampling too, though the one I actually liked, I think I would like better if it was just pure chocolate. :P

As for violating Lent, one of the samples I tried had bacon in it.  Oops.  But I bought a couple, since I can eat them on Sundays and I thought it was interesting.  It even has those fizzy pop rocks in it, along with two kinds of sea salt.  the other thing I really liked was Schoggi.  I found I actually didn’t really like dark chocolate all that much.  Scharffen Berger is special in that regards.  Or maybe I was just having too many different chocolates for me to really appreciate them here.

Randomly caught the tail end of some Shaolin Temple thing at Union Square while going to the BART station.

Was heavily tempted at Games of Berkeley but resisted buying anything, then met up with Cat and we ate at Thai Basil.  Pad Thai and Pad See Yew.  No chicken.

The Panda Candy was… weird.  Everyone was weird in the film.  I kept wondering 1) How this could be shown in China and 2) If it would get an R rating or a NC-17 rating in the US.  Lots of nudity and awkward sex scenes and lesbians.  But kinda boring.

Had a bit of run-around fun on BART when we forgot to transfer.

Well I’m back

I don’t like crowded planes.

I watched more TV in the last 3 days than I have in the past year or so.  Mostly comedy central.

I am out of cough drops.  This won’t be pleasant.
